Carols on the Green, Sunday 11 December 2011 5.30 pm

The Carols on the Green was well attended again this year and the weather good enough for us to stay outside. After the excellent singing we all retired to the Church for Mince Pies and Mulled Wine, everyone enjoyed themselves so much that it was nearly 7.00pm before we could clear away and lock up!

Thanks to the Rev Ray Samme for leading the event on the Green, the Church for allowing use of their premises and Steve Ball and his friends who provided the music. Then there are the ladies on the Committee, Margaret, Wendy, Pat and Kath, who served the refreshments and Dave Firmin for setting up the power for lighting on the Green and providing the Mulled Wine.

This has been an annual event for a number years and we intend that it remain that way for as long we can.

Beating the Bounds, Saturday 10 September 2011

This year 30 residents, plus their dogs, put their best foot forward to walk round the boundary of the village to “Beat the Bounds.”  The walk was lead this year by Eileen Kelly and was started by the Chairman of Sevenoaks District Council, Cllr Bob Orridge.

The weather had been a little unsettled over the previous few days, but although it was not that sunny, at least it did not rain.

As before the walk coincided with the Heritage Open Day, so the members of the Heritage Society were able to provide refreshments to the walkers on their return and also gave a large number of people the opportunity to find out more about the history of the village.

The Management Committee of the Association are pleased that this event is still so popular and our thanks go to the Heritage Society for all their help, all the participants, Cllr Orridge for taking the time to start the walk and our particular thanks to Eileen Kelly for leading them all round and not losing anybody.

Quiz Night, Saturday 14 May 2011

On Saturday 14 May the HRA held another successful Quiz Night, this time at the Heritage Centre due to the Scout Hall not being let out during the evening at present.

Despite early problems some 50 residents attended and an excellent evening was had by all, even if it was a little crowded.

The brains of all were stretched for the first part of the evening, but the fish (or chicken) and chip supper during the interval refreshed everyone to carry on to the end. In all well worth the £8.

Thanks to everyone who came and supported the function, but particularly to Margaret Neaves, David and Sylvia Firmin for organising it all and to Ken and Coral Newman for setting and marking the questions.

We hope to have another one in the near future.
