The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee 2012

Next year the Queen will have been on the throne for 60 years and there will be a long weekend to celebrate her Diamond Jubilee, from Saturday 2nd to Tuesday 5th of June 2012. Various national events are planned, but Sunday the 3rd has been designated as “The Great British Lunch Day” and communities are being encouraged to get together to hold street parties and similar functions on that day.

We thought we could have such a party and invite the whole village to the Heritage Gardens, bringing their own food and drink to celebrate together. There would be no charge and we would provide entertainment throughout the afternoon to late evening. In addition we would have a large marquee so that there would be some shelter in case the weather was not kind.

To provide even the minimum facilities would cost over £2500, but the Association does not have that amount of money, so we are going to write to all the businesses in the village to ask for their help with the finances. However we hope that some residents will be able to contribute as well, every little helps.

We shall be contacting the local schools and voluntary organisations to see if they wish to take an active part in the celebrations.

We have a number of ideas already as to what we can do on the day, but there must be people in the village with ideas of their own. Please let us know of any suggestions you might have.

Let’s make Sunday 3 June 2012 a special day for Hextable
